Deacon came across this show on the Interwebs, looked like it would be cool and we hadn't seen our Portland brothers in a while, so we decided to risk the February weather and ride down for it. http://theonemotorcycleshow.com/ Rudeboy, Pete, and Erik DaViking were all dumb enough to slab it to Portland in the middle of winter. Of course we had to meet up for luxury biscuits at Top Pot in Seattle, where we saw Mark on his Ducati, Lawrence on his '78 Triumph, and Deacon and Leann.....After tossing down a couple donuts and shooting the breeze, we put on the raingear and hit the road. The ride down was about as good as you can expect on I-5 in February, just a little light rain and relatively warm. We were glad to see we weren't the only idiots who would ride 200 miles for a bike show, we passed a group of Cretins on the way down as well. Once we hit Portland, we went to Donna's place (Sammy's girl), got warmed up and the gear off the bikes, then we all headed out to Kelly's Olympian to meet the rest of the Stumptown crew. The Dude, Bob, Marty, Sammy, and Naveen all made it out, great food, tasty adult beverages, and good conversation. Nice. The show itself was in an old industrial building, bikes and motorcycle related art were installed throughout. The crowd was pretty cool, lots of sweet bikes, both inside and out. Plus there were $1 PBRs.... After the show we headed back to Donna's place, were we sat around drinking beers and shooting the breeze till we hit the rack. Next morning we woke up, had a breakfast that couldn't be beat courtesy of Sammy and Donna, then saddled up and headed north. After an almost entirely dry ride north (unheard of at this time of year!) we all made it home in time to watch the Superbowl....All in all a real good way to spend the weekend...Thanks again to the Stumptown boys for showing us a good time down there. Theres a few more pictures here. Add Comment Stumptown website 02/07/2011
The Stumptown boys got their website up and running, check it out here. Chris works on his bike. 01/28/2011
New headlight mounts for Chris.....Look at this. They're mounted. Now to put the front tire back on. She's back together and all buttoned up. Oh yeah... Time for another beer. Wrap up part 2 01/25/2011
OK, I messed up the link below, just click here for the video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uD81ejIu4g 2010 wrap up. 01/25/2011
So I put together a little video of what we did last year, didn't get everything because there was just too much to cover in 2 and a half minutes, but got the feel of the year anyway. We had a lot of good times....Click the picture below for the video.... Tire Change, Part 1 01/08/2011
It has been decided that the days of bike shop tire changing fees tyranny are over...Rich and DaViking decided to start doing their own tire work. True to form, a relatively simple job became an ordeal. Got the wheel off, easy peasy...Tire was a little trickier, and we managed to break one of Deacons brand new Harbor Freight special tire irons, but we got her off. Even managed to remove the broken spoke.....Time to try and true the wheel. No dice...The rim was off by at least half a tire width! Darn thing looked like a taco. It is amazing Rich didn't kill himself riding on it.....So its new wheel time. The wheel is going out to Vikings friend Joe of Jafty Cycles to have a new rim laced on it. At least this time its not our fault it didn't get done! Hers a couple pics of the days events. Stay tuned for Part II, coming soon to a theatre near you. Pete and the Reverend 01/04/2011
Pete's old lady, Kelly, did right by him and got him VIP tickets to see the Reverend Horton Heat at El Corazon on New Years Eve. Not only did they see a great show, but Pete got to meet the band and give the Rev a few guitar pointers. In his own words, "they treated old Pete like an old friend." Reverend Horton Heat is a class act, and so is Kelly...Heres some pics. Last night Pete, Lawrence, and I went to see Dick and Jimmy Dale at the Tractor Tavern here in Seattle. Holy crap, that was a good show! Dick may be pushing 70, but he can still play like it was 1968. Jimmy is maybe even better than his old man. It was a pretty laid back show, almost like they were just messing around having a good time with the guitars. Dick is a great showman too, real engaging with the audience, laughing and joking...This was probably the best show I saw this year, and I've been to quite a few. Both of the Dales were playing acoustic/electric guitars Dick designed for Fender, Dick has a Malibu, Jimmy plays a Kingman. They sounded great, real nice instruments, perfect for surf. Heres a few shots of Dick and Jimmy on stage, it was really cool watching them together, they have a great relationship, you really see the father/son vibe... ![]() Heres the guitars, I'm gonna have to get one before too long...Although Mrs. DaViking feels that is not such a swell idea... Short version is if you get a chance to see Dick and Jimmy, jump on it. You'll have a great time. October Backfire 11/08/2010
Been kinda quiet around here, nothing big. The Club has been getting together for a lot of little things, but since we are all retarded, we don't have a lot of pictures.... Now that we are hitting the cold rainy season here in the Great Northwest there will be less riding for pleasure and more riding to get there over the next few months. Got a few big ideas though, including possibly sending a crew down to the El Diablo Run in May. Stay tuned.... In the Meantime, heres a few taken with DaVikings crappy cell phone at Backfire Moto night last month. Shake the Shack Rockabilly Ball 10/05/2010
KEXP radio (90.3 FM) has a show called "Shake the Shack", three hours of rockabilly every Friday night, you can listen to it anytime on line here. Every October, they throw the Rockabilly Ball, three nights of rockabilly bands from all ove r the country, plus a car show on Saturday. Pete and Erik made all three shows, and Deacon and Chris made the car show with them as well. As always, it was a great time, well worth the cost of admission.....Good music, cool cats, pretty kittens, hot rods, and PBR...... Thursday night was surf night, this was the first year they did the surf thing....Great idea. The Mercury Four opened up, followed by King of Hawaii, Frankie and the Poolboys, and Slacktone. Slacktone was the best surf band we had seen, ever. Drummer Dusty Watson just about made the drums a lead instrument....Kick ass. To top it all off, the bands brought 60's style go-go girls. Perfect. Friday night was more or less the Western swing night, with the Possum Hollow Boys and the Lucky Stars. Deacon made this show along with DaViking and Pete.....Good stuff, but no dancing girls! Saturday brought the car show at the Shanty Tavern. Erik and Deacon rode down from Mukilteo, and met Chris there. Due to about equal parts stupidity and lack of caring, Viking and Deacon rode right through the show, crowd and all...Got a lot of attention. Pete made it down a little later. Lots of really cool cars, good times just hanging around listening to the music, looking at cars, and basically enjoying the hell out of a nice Saturday afternoon.... Deacons bike was a chick magnet, to our vague surprise.... After the car show, we got some fish and chips at a pub in Ballard, then off to the Tractor for the last night... Good times, man, good times. Well worth the $30 ticket. Theres a few more pics in the gallery here. |
